I know it sounds awful to say it … but … seriously, stop being so nice!
You’re probably a people-pleaser like me.
Well, now I am a recovering people-pleaser.
We’ve been told to be nice to everyone.
And, as women, we’ve been not just told … but … honestly, molded, manipulated and flat-out forced to be nice to everyone (whether we want to or not).
Now I am NOT saying that you should be mean.
I am saying that, sometimes, it is really not appropriate or empowering to be nice. It can even be damaging to our self-worth.
Do you get this?
Have you been in situations where you are being asked to do something that inside you are screaming “HELL NO!!” … but you end up doing it, to be nice?
Well, I am here to say that’s not serving your Soul, my friend.
That is not empowering you.
That is not a good example for your kids.
That is killing you slowly.
How long can you keep going on like this?
I remember my sister saying to me once … “oh Pip, you’re so easy going .. you say yes to everything.”
And I said ‘ohh no … I don’t want to be known as that person.”
And she said ‘Well, you better practice saying no more often … you have my permission to say no to me anytime you like. It’s time for you to stop being so nice!”
It might seem like a weird thing to get permission, but sometimes we do that for each other.
“I give you permission to leave your job.”
“I give you permission to have a day off.”
“I give you permission to stop dating that person.”
“I give you permission to stop being so nice.”
The fact is that you don’t NEED permission from another person, it’s really about giving yourself permission to choose.
I’d like you to consider taking a tiny step away from other people and towards yourself.
I’d like to invite you to take some time to ask yourself ‘what do I want?’ … so you don’t jump right in and say ‘yes’ to others.
I’d like to encourage you to give yourself space to wonder and ponder and feel and think about your desires.
That’s what I do when I meditate.
Meditation slows down my ‘nice-girl’ reflex.
Meditation gives me space to consider what I want.
Meditation allows me to fill up my bucket so I can serve others.
Meditation offers a sanctuary for my mind and body.
Meditation connects me to my divine self.
Meditation helps me make great choices.
Meditation assists me to process intense emotions.
Meditation is a stress-reliever.
Meditation increases my energy.
And that’s why I teach people to meditate during my coaching programs and Reiki courses, I know how beneficial it can be.
If you are ready to learn how to let go of your ‘nice-girl’ self … you might like to check out my new meditation course.
Blessings Pip
